Coin collecting can be confusing. There are around 70 terms to understand about the grading of a coin and there are additional 10 or more terms on color that do not even figure in to the initial terms. Furthermore, there are terms on non-graded coins that just are weird. This begs the question, if you want to collect rare coins, how do you know what to do.
Well, a good solution to such a dilemma is to simply join a numismatic society or subscribe to a numismatic newsletter or publication. A good newsletter will fill you in on the monthly happenings in the numismatic community, and give some advice on what and how to purchase coins worth collecting.
