I was a relative novice to the world of business when I started my own company.

It was lucky for me, however, that I had a stable group of friends and competent professionals to help guide me along the way.

But, for the most part, I was on my own with the day-to-day operations of the business.

Starting out, I had limited knowledge of what a fixed cost was. As time went on, though, I soon found out.

For example, after securing a large account, part of the sales contract required my company to have minimum levels of General Liability insurance.

It was just one of those details I had to learn from experience.
